National Doctors' Day is celebrated annually in the United States to recognize the service of physicians. We would like to take this opportunity to recognize the incredible talent of our physicians and their contributions to our practice.
Dr. John M. Weigand is the founder and president of Central Ohio Geriatrics (COG). Without his vision and leadership, COG would not exist. Dr. Weigand practices at Kendal at Granville and Middleton Senior Living. He also serves as an Associate Medical Director of Hospice of Central Ohio assisting in providing compassionate end of life care. Last year he accepted the role as Chief Medical Officer at National Church Residences, a non-profit organization providing affordable housing for vulnerable older adults and strives to transform their living situation and improve their overall quality of life. Dr. Weigand is a community leader as well and is very involved with his local church.
Dr. Jonathan Hollister is Dr. Weigand’s business partner and has been with COG since its inception in 2009. He has advanced training in geriatrics and has been working in this specialty for over 12 years. He is board certified in geriatrics and family medicine. He cares for patients in several facilities throughout central Ohio. Dr. Hollister is also involved with his local church and has gone on several medical mission trips throughout the years.
Dr. Stuart J. Kanter was in the Mount Carmel Residency program and studied under Dr. Weigand’s leadership in 2005. They would often dream about starting a geriatrics practice; their dreams became a reality in 2009 when Dr. Weigand founded Central Ohio Geriatrics. Dr. Kanter is board certified in family medicine, Geriatrics, and Hospice and Palliative Care. He practices at Westminster Thurber and Kendal at Granville and also serves as the Medical Director for SI Hospice. He is a valued leader in our group.
Dr. Amit Bhojraj was a geriatric fellow at Grant in 2012 and spent time training with Central Ohio Geriatrics. We knew he was a good fit for our practice and were thrilled when he joined our group after the completion of his advanced training. Dr. Bhojraj practices at Friendship Village of Dublin, Memorial Gables and the Forum at Knightsbridge. He is loved by his patients and known by our staff for his incredible sense of humor.
Dr. Jaynine Vado was introduced to Central Ohio Geriatrics during her internal medicine residency and joined the practice in the summer of 2015 following the completion of her fellowship is Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She also serves as an Associate Medical Director for Hospice of Central Ohio in addition to comprehensive care at several of our facilities and locations.
Dr. Terry Slayman is the newest physician to join our practice, however, he has been practicing medicine for almost 25 years. He has been caring for patients in post-acute and long term care for his entire career. He founded his own primary care practice in 1992, and recently decided to focus on caring for geriatric patients and teaching the next generation of physicians. He sees patients in Worthington and Delaware.
Dr. Paul Weigand, Ph.D. is a psychologist who travels to Kendal from Northeastern Ohio once a week. He counsels patients who are struggling with chronic disease, the aging process, the loss of a spouse, Alzheimer’s dementia and myriad other concerns. He has been a welcomed addition in the care of our patients in Granville. He also sees patients at The Weils in Chagrin Falls.
We are honored to have these physicians as the leaders of our practice. We want to thank them for their incredible dedication and contributions toward improving the quality of life of the seniors entrusted to our care. Please join us in honoring them, not just today, but every day for the incredible work they do in caring for the population we serve.
